Apps to Take On the Road This Summer

Today is the first day of summer and while the weather might be scorching, don’t let your road trips scorch your wallet.

Money saving website, Kiplinger.com, says these three FREE apps will make your smart phone that much smarter while traveling this summer:

1. GasBuddy: Even though national gas prices are down, we won’t stop complaining until gas is under $3 a gallon. This app will help you find the cheapest gas where you are. It uses your current location and current prices based on user updates. GasBuddy will help you fill up your tank at the lowest price possible.

2. AAA’s Discount App: If you’re a member of AAA, then download this free app without asking any questions — it has DISCOUNT in its name! This app will show you deals at the restaurants and stores closest too. If you have a specific establishment that you want to visit, type that in and this app will also show how to get there.

3. Waze: No need to set up your TomTom, this app will do everything your GPS can do and more. It updates your route with up-to-the-minute traffic that will slow you down and warn you when there is a speed trap ahead. Nothing says saving money like avoiding speeding tickets and bumper to bumper traffic (ELN does not endorse speeding).

Don’t let the economy keep you home this summer, use these apps to get to your favorite spots faster and cheaper.
