Cutting back on costume prices

halloween-money

With Halloween right around the corner, you may be planning out your costume. If you’re looking to cut back on spending as the holiday season gets closer, there are a few ways to save money before getting dressed up for the scariest night of the year.

Before reaching for your wallet, ask around and see if people have parts of old costumes you can borrow. No need to spend money if you don’t have to! Especially in a college environment where there are so many opportunities to get dressed up, check and see if you know anyone that can help you out.

If you are looking to buy your costume, search for coupons before you hit the stores. Many companies release both paper and online coupons right before Halloween. If you keep an eye out, you may be able to get discounted costumes, free shipping, or buy one get on free deals as well.

You may also want to check locally at stores like Goodwill and The Salvation Army, both minutes from campus, to find savings through hitting the thrift stores. There are always hidden gems if you know where to look. So before heading straight to the costume store, maybe check out the used items first, just in case.

If you’re insistent on going to the store, check back in November as the spider webs are being swept up and the Jack-o-Lanterns blown out. Each year stores offer large discounts as they try to clear out what’s left of that year’s supply. So in early November, poke around and see what kind of discounts you can find for next year!
