A slow first halfs sets Elon back against UNCW

Wilmington, N.C. - A slow first half set the Elon University Women’s Basketball team back, as the Phoenix trailed the entire game in a 76-68 loss at UNC Wilmington on Thursday.

Coming into Thursday’s game, Elon was ranked fourth in the CAA, with a 4-2 record in conference play. UNCW was pegged at seventh in the league, with a 2 -4 conference record.

A slow first half seemed to haunt the Phoenix as UNCW led by by 21 points just 37 seconds before halftime, going into the break with the score 39-21.

Elon would once again be lead in scoring by Zora Stephenson. The Phoenix had three players with double-digit scoring, with Sam Coffer and Lauren Brown coming in at 12 and 11 points, respectively.

UNCW was led by Kelva Atkins with 22 points, Brie Mobley with 15 points and Naqaiyyah Teague with 14 points.

With the loss Elon now has a 11-7 overall record, and a 4-3 conference record. UNCW now holds a 7-11 overall record, and a 3-4 conference record.

Elon will now prepare to face Northeastern University at home on Sunday afternoon at 3pm. Northeastern is currently ranked last in the CAA with a 1-6 conference record (4-13 overall).
