The Elon women’s lacrosse team fell 21-2 to the No. 2 ranked UNC Tar Heels Sunday, Mar. 1, in what as a rather one-sided contest.

The Tar Heels (5-1) rolled early on, scoring 16 goals in the opening half. Elon (3-3) was held to just eight shots the entire game, compared to UNC’s 46. The Phoenix’s first goal came at the 25:35 mark in the second half off a shot by Elle Hvozodovic. Sloane Kessler netted the only other goal for the maroon and gold with 5:50 remaining in regulation.

Both Elon goalkeepers saw time in the match. Sophomore Rachel Ramirez allowed 17 goals while making 11 saves over 48:43. Freshman Tori Cipollone played the remaining 11:47, allowing four goals and two saves.

Up next, Elon returns to Rhodes Stadium to face Coastal Carolina on March 6 at 6 p.m.
