Aaron Mellette Returns to the NFL

Former Elon football player Aaron Mellette is back in the National Football League. The two-time first team FCS All-American announced Monday evening that he signed a deal with the New York Jets via Instagram. “
All I can say is how blessed I am for being afforded another chance to pursue my dream” he wrote as the caption. “Most people don’t even get 1 chance at this. No matter the outcome always thanking God for the doors he’s opened.” The details of the contract have not been released.

Mellette was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the 7th round (pick 238) of the 2013 NFL Draft. After an impressive preseason with the Ravens, Mellette made the final 52-man roster. But during the week leading up to the season opener versus the Denver Broncos, Mellette suffered a knee injury and was played on the injured reserved list where he remained the rest of the season.

In the offseason leading up to the start of training camp this past year, Mellette battled back, but failed to overcome his injury and was waived by the Ravens on June 17.

Mellette will now begin offseason workouts and OTAs with the Jets.

I’ve been a Jet fan since 1967. I’ve never seen an off season like this. Magic Mike and Coach Todd have turned The Jets from a 4 win team to a ten or eleven win team. I hate to make excuses, but from game 2 last season to game 10, the schedule was BRUTAL!!! Anyway we are adding pieces to the o and the d. Guys I never heard of, but Magic Mike is a great talent evaluator. John Idzik, U SUCK!!! All the money u had to spend and u didn’t do s it!!!! Rex, I still love u and think ur the best coach The Jets ever had. Too bad they gave u a complete moron to b ur boss. And u never badmouthed him. Ur a class guy Rex. That’s why the banners said, FIRE IDZIK and not fire Rex. Super Bowl bound J.E.T.S. Jets, Jets , Jets!!!!
