Preseason camp with a musical twist
Football trains almost all summer to prepare for the fall athletic season. But they are not the only ones practicing in the hot August sun. Elon’s own marching band, The Fire of the Carolinas gets to school about two weeks before the first day of classes…and they get to work.
“We have our preseason camp just like the football team has their preseason camp.” Lindsay Luhn, the Head Drum Major for the Fire of the Carolinas said.
Luhn leads the team on the field and off. When asked about the upcoming season, Luhn said she’s excited.
“That’s going to be really fun to get everyone going everyone pep’ed up,” she said.
The Fire of the Carolina’s has big plans for their four performances this year, including songs like Shut Up and Dance by Walk the Moon, pop punk medleys by Pink and even a special surprise performance that is being kept secret.
To Luhn, though, marching bands aren’t just about a good show, they’re about connecting the university.
“I think that we are really key in keeping the school spirit alive,” she said. “We’re out there every game playing the fight song. Win, lose, draw.”
The Fire of the Carolinas perform at home football and basketball games. They also have special theme shows, such as like U.S.A and Live Pink shows.
If you want to see their secret surprise performance piece, they’ll be performing it at the first home football game of the season on September 19th at 6 p.m. against North Carolina A&T.
