“BOO-ze it and Lose it” Campaign Starts Friday

As of September 30, there have been over 8,000 alcohol related crashes in North Carolina in 2015 and 288 of them resulted in fatalities.

In response to this, The Governor’s Highway Safety Program and N.C. Transportation is launching its “BOO-ze it and Lose It” Campaign reminding drivers of the consequences of drinking and driving.

If you plan on drinking this Halloween, The North Carolina Department of Transportation and The Governors Highway Safety Program recommend the following steps.

  • Before you go out, make sure you have a plan to get back home safely at the end of the night. This can be done by assigning a designated driver, downloading a ride app, or checking public transportation availability.
  • Just because you don’t get behind a wheel, doesn’t mean your safe. Walking while impaired can be just as dangerous so be sure to have a sober friend help you get home.
  • Immediately contact authorities if you see an impaired driver on the road.
  • If you see someone who is about to drive while impaired, take their keys and make arrangements for them to get home safely.

The BOO-ze it and Lose it” campaign runs from Friday October 30 through Sunday, November 1.
