Winter weather update

CZU8oINUYAArqZt

At least for the Piedmont Triad region, Winter Storm Jonas has been underwhelming and luckily it will continue to follow that trend.

At one point Thursday night, the National Weather Service was anticipating and predicting upwards of 9 inches of snow – yes, snow, not sleet – for Elon’s area specifically. That number has since dropped to 1-2 inches, largely due to unpredictable changes in the storms trajectory and an upper level of warm air (thus, the sleet).

Moving through tonight, you can expect intermittent snow and snow showers likely to eke out another inch of snow.

Regardless, as Gov. McCrory continues to emphasize, travel is not advisable, at least through tomorrow. It’s better not to drive unless you absolutely have to.

Four winter-weather related traffic fatalities have already occurred in the region.
